How do solar lights work?


Solar lights harness and store the suns energy in a rechargeable battery. Most automatically turn the lights on at night when it is dark and turn off when the sensor detects sunlight.  Inside each solar light you’d find an L.E.D. bulb or multiple L.E.D. bulbs, a rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery as well as the small light sensor.

Solar Garden Lights versus conventional lights?


Solar garden lighting gets it power from the sun which requires no cables, no outlets, and lets your move your garden lights at a moments notice without having to damage or change your landscape.  Solar garden lights take advantage of L.E.D.’s bright output and low power consumption. Conventional garden lights will often come as low voltage kits and will require cable runs to each light as well as the transformer that plugs into a standard wall outlet for power.  These often use standard light blubs that burn out faster than L.E.D.’s.

So which one should I Pick for My Garden?  Solar or Low Volt? It’s all just a matter of what works best for your lighting situation and which lighting fixtures you like the most. There is no right or wrong choice. Each type has there own advantages and disadvantages.


Do Solar Garden Lights Stay On As Long?


Early versions of solar garden lights tended to go out or burn dim after a 4 or more hours of use. With today’s low power LED’s, better solar panels and longer lasting batteries solar landscape lights will burn ten or more hours per full charge.

How long do Solar LED bulbs last?

LED’s can run for 25,000 hours or more. They are often non-replaceable unless your skilled at soldering, but since they last for so long they almost never need to be replaced.

How Long Do Solar Garden Light Batteries Last?


Easy to replace NiMH battery packs in each solar garden light last for one thousand or more charges. Usually a discreet panel will hide a small replicable battery pack if the light starts to dim or not turn on at night.
